New Life for Old Amices

Don recently gave us a pile of well loved amices for repairs. While most people would have perhaps just retired them we thought we would see if they could be returned in a dignified state for more service. They had seen so many Masses, been prayerfully wrapped across shoulders...

In any case, Karen went to work on them. Most of them were shredded across the top edge. We noticed that the linen had actually stretched wider on this side after so many trips to the altar. Karen’s lovely solution was to trim off the torn/worn edge, create a new hem and flip the amice over so the bottom edge became the new top edge. Yes, the amice is a little shorter but well within acceptable measurements. She then replicated the original embroidered cross, attached new tapes and off they went back to work.
